1980년 5월 신군부의 총칼에 맞서 일어난 광주민중항쟁(1980.5.18-5.27)과 비슷한 시기 지구 반대편에 위치에 있는 아르헨티나 군사독재시절(1976-1983)에 많은 시민들이 실종, 희생되었던 아픈 역사를 배경으로 한다. 두 나라 모두 40년이 지난 현재까지 진상규명, 가해자 처벌, 실종 및 강제입양. 유해발 굴과 당시 납치, 감금, 고문 그리고 최후 항쟁지 등에 대한 기억, 발굴, 복원사업이 진행중이다. 이 작품은 거울과 같이 두 나라의 상황을 비추며, 어떻게 과거 와 현재, 개인의 삶과 공동체의 복원, 나아가 국가에 대한 신뢰 회복으로 이어 나아갈 수 있을지에 대한 질문이고자 한다. 작품의 제목 <좋은 빛, 좋은 공기> 두 도시이름에서 가져왔다.
시놉시스
한 번도 아버지의 모습을 보지 못한 아나(ANA)는 꿈에서 아버지와 만난다.
그러나 사진으로만 뵈었던 아버지는 꿈속에서 조차 움직이지 않는다.
아르헨티나 독재 정권하에서 납치된 3만 명의 실종자 가운데 한 명인 아나의 아버지. 그녀는 아버지의 미소를 볼 수 있을까? 꿈에서 그리고 현실에서.
오늘도 어김없이 옛 전남도청 농성장으로 향하는 이근례씨. 그녀의 아들은 항쟁 마지막 날 도청에서 사라졌다.
주검이 되어서 돌아온 아들의 얼굴을 그녀는 알아보지 못했다. 20년이 지나서야 아들의 존재를 알아본 그녀에게
옛 전남도청은 아들의 영혼이 숨 쉬는 장소이다.

학살의 고통을 간직한 도시는 아직도 꿈을 꾸고 있다. 학살의 기억은 생존자들의 목소리로, 고고학자들의 손을 빌어 다시 복원되고 두 도시는 꿈에서 깨어난다.

On April 30th, 1977, 14 mothers sent a letter to President Videla, the military dictator of Argentina, inquiring where their missing children were; later, they began a silent march at the Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires.
And on May 18th, 1980, in South Korea, the citizens of Gwangju rose up against the new martial law government.
The histories of Argentina and Gwangju, South Korea, two places on the opposite side of the globe, are mirror images of the other: both are stories of brutality and massacres, inflicted upon human beings by other human beings during the military rule in the 1970s and 80s. “I am scared of people forgetting us,” says one grandmother who lost her son during the May 18 Democratic Uprising of Gwangju.
We listen to the accounts of the grandmothers who have been protesting for 1000 days to preserve the former Jeonnam Provincial Government Building, the site and evidence of the May 18 Uprising. We also listen to the witnesses recounting their memories of abductions, imprisonments, deaths, and disappearances that happened during the military dictatorship era (1976-1983) in Argentina. At the Ex-ESMA (the former naval academy), one of the sites of such brutality, one woman comes up to us and says: “I hope this place becomes comfortable for those who were
uncomfortable with this place, while it becomes uncomfortable for those who were comfortable with it.”
How are we to face and mourn war, violence, massacre, life and death, especially at a time of global pandemic when humanity is again trapped in a cycle of panic? The people of Gwangju — literally meaning “a city of good light” — and Buenos Aires — literally “good air” — may be able to give us some answers.

임흥순(한국, 1969년생)은 서울에서 활동하는 미술작가이자 영화감독이다.
그는 노동자로 살아온 자신의 가족에 관한 이야기를 시작으로 정치, 사회, 국가, 자본으로 부터 주어진 삶을 영위하는 사람들의 여러 문제에 관심을 가지고 작품세계를 넓히는 중이다. 그의 작품은 사회∙정치적이고 때론 감성적으로 사진, 설치미술, 공공미술, 커뮤니티아트, 영화 등의 다양한 시각 매체를 활용한다.
한국 최초로 56회 베니스비엔날레(2015) 은사자상을 수상했다. 그외 제주4·3 평화기념관(제주, 2023),

Director Introduction
IM Heung-soon (South Korea, 1969) is an artist and filmmaker based in Seoul. Starting with his early works on his working-class family, he has expanded his art world by exploring the lives of people who are marginalized in social, political, capitalist, and national contexts. His political yet emotional works are embodied through different visual mediums such as photography, installations, public art, community art, and films.
He was awarded the Silver Lion at the 56th Venice Biennale (2015), a first for a Korean. Since then, his works have been exhibited and showcased at the Tate Modern, London (2015), the Sharjah Biennale (2015), the Shanghai International Film Festival (2015), the Montreal World Film Festival (2015), the DOK LEIPZIG -International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (2015), the Pompidou Centre, Paris (2016), the Film Society of Lincoln Center, New York (2016), the Taipei Biennale (2016), HKW, Berlin (2017), the Busan International Film Festival (2018), and the Carnegie International, Pittsburgh (2018). He had solo exhibitions, among others, at MoMA PS1, New York (2015), the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul (2017), Jeju4·3Peace Memorial Hall, Jeju Island (2023).

소개

BANDAL aims to ease the distinction between artistic films, commercial films, documentaries and fiction, genre films and experimental films, and plan and produce new and diverse film works that cross the boundaries.
BANDAL has produced and co-produced a total of 10 feature films, starting with the feature documentary <Jeju Prayer> in 2012, and has also produced experimental short films/videos. With an interest in the stories of people who are increasingly marginalized and disappearing (workers, regions, women, migration, war, community issues, etc.), documentary films and public art as contemporary art, individual work and collaboration, exhibition halls, theaters, and life sites BANDAL has been engaged in various types of projects. BANDAL was created by Kim Min-kyung and IM Heung-soon.
